How NFC keychains work

Tap-to-share explained: what happens when someone taps your keychain to a phone.

NFC stands for Near Field Communication — the same short-range wireless tech behind contactless payments like Apple Pay. Your NFCHub keychain holds a tiny chip with your unique vCard link. When tapped to a phone, the phone reads the link and instantly opens your vCard. Let's break down exactly what happens.

Inside the keychain: a tiny NFC chip

Each NFCHub keychain contains a passive NFC chip — no battery, no electronics, just a tiny coil and microchip embedded in the plastic. It stores one piece of data: a unique web link pointing to your vCard, like nfchub.digital/card/aya.kone.

ℹ️ No charging neededThe chip draws power from the phone's NFC antenna when tapped. It works forever, no batteries.

Someone taps the keychain to their phone

The other person holds the back of their phone against your keychain — usually about a centimeter or less apart. NFC has a very short range, which is actually a security feature: the chip can't accidentally trigger or be read from across the room.

The phone reads the link and opens your vCard

Modern iPhones (iPhone 7 and newer) and Android phones automatically detect the NFC tap. A small notification appears suggesting the link — they tap it, and your vCard loads in their browser. No app required on their side. The whole thing takes about 2 seconds.

They save your info — or share their own back

From your vCard, they can tap "+ Save to Contacts" to add you to their phonebook instantly with all your details. If they want to share their info with you in return, they can fill the lead form on your card — that lead appears in your dashboard immediately, and you get an email + push notification.
